Keep your cloud data warehousing projects on track

WhereScape provides a framework to a speed up delivery of a successful outcome

Keep your cloud data warehousing projects on track

There is a lot of positivity around cloud data warehousing and for good reason, too. Done well, it is affordable, more flexible and you can do a lot more with your data. But how can you make sure it is done well? WhereScape RED, the tool many of New Zealand’s leading brands already know and trust, is the answer.

The basic principles of building an analytical system or data warehouse are the same whether on premises, hybrid or cloud. The frameworks are well understood; it isn’t a question of reinventing the wheel, but rather adapting and translating to the various cloud platforms on which you might build your data warehouse (these include Snowflake, AWS Redshift, Azure DB, Azure DW and others).

With WhereScape RED, the adapting and translating is simplified, and with that done, they’ll get your cloud data warehouse rolling fast.

You may, however, have noticed that applying traditional (you might say legacy) approaches to data warehousing to new cloud technologies doesn’t always end well.  At best you’ll get to the cloud but will be unable to realise all the benefits cloud offers, or at worst, and more often than not, it leads to expensive mistakes. Not good in anyone’s book.

Now, while ‘cloud’ could hardly be called the latest, new-fangled thing to drop out of the tech industry, it hasn’t affected all parts of the enterprise evenly. Putting enterprise data into the cloud at scale is a relatively new development. The idea of data warehousing in the cloud is catching on in much the same way that the idea of putting office productivity and even enterprise applications has.

But despite cloud data warehousing being a relative new comer, there’s no reason to use immature or legacy toolsets. WhereScape RED is proven on premises and it works just as well in the cloud (don’t take my word for it, check out Xero and Lumino).

With a toolset that has a focus on providing frameworks and best practices, you avoid the risk of wasting time trying to either make approaches designed for on premises work in the cloud, or worse, trying to develop new approaches of your own. Trust us, that’s risky, complex and rarely goes well.

WhereScape RED’s framework provides guard rails for data teams building in the cloud for the first time.  Why pioneer a new path when you can have a map?

Importantly, though, the guardrails provided by WhereScape RED aren’t the ‘Ten Commandments’. They are guidelines which will result in the rapid delivery of a known outcome (a data warehouse which works, in other words). You can think out of the square. The solution is adaptable. But follow the guardrails and you will minimise the chances of anything going wrong while speeding the process of getting something successful done.

Ultimately, you don’t want to waste time figuring out stuff which was already figured out long ago by the experts. WhereScape have spent many, many years automating data warehouses – all that experience is baked into WhereScape RED. It provides a proven methodology that works on premises and now in the cloud.

And that’s why a cloud data warehouse shouldn’t be attempted without WhereScape RED. It keeps you on track to deliver value to the business. Our guard rails make sure you don’t go off the rails, in other words.
