Tell us a bit about your background.
After University I had a number of technical roles before moving into sales and then into (what was then called) decision support systems.
How did you get into BI/Data?
I read about data warehousing in a magazine and it sounded like a great way for technical people to add immediate value to business users. The only problem was no one in New Zealand knew anything about it at the time so we had to blaze a lot of trails for ourselves.
What’s your most memorable WhereScape/NOW moment?
Founding the company and having those first customers have the confidence to go with us.
What do you do outside the office?
I run a lot, go to the gym often and do office yoga as few times as possible.
Give us a fun fact about yourself.
My first attempt to specialise in data was taking a job to set up a new decision support business unit for Unisys – I lasted 3 months.
