Nick studied Automotive & Industrial Design before changing to a degree in Information Systems Management – a move from physical to virtual design, but many of the same principles apply. Nick’s worked with multinationals, professional services, banks and startups to gain insight about their data through data modelling and visualisation.
Tell us a bit about your background.
Originally from the UK, I spent 7 years working in the city of London. I then moved to the Coromandel and lived for 7 years in a log cabin without mains power, water, or even a road!
How did you get into BI/Data?
While on work placement at university, I wrote a program to visualise how shipping containers should be optimally loaded for transportation. This program directly resulted in a change in work practices and significant cost saving for the company – and it got me hooked. I have been working with data ever since.
What’s your most memorable WhereScape/NOW moment?
There are quite a few to choose from. I think it would be winning the NZTE International Business Award.
What do you do outside of the office?
Cycling, building tree houses, and restoring old cars – I’m currently working on a 1966 Triumph Herald.
Give us a fun fact about yourself.
I worked as a chef at Rockpool Restaurant in Sydney, which was ranked number 12 in the top 100 restaurants in Australia.
